Creating tomorrow’s critical thinkers today

The majority of the Kindergarten class is reading independently! During the first part of the year the students learned about nouns and verbs which greatly helped in the development of basic sentence structure. Spelling tests are held weekly and the students’ handwriting is impeccable.

In Math students are writing number sentences, finding the missing addend, and working on two digit addition and subtraction as well as doing fractions, measurement and time. Additionally they know the value and can recognize a penny, a nickel, a dime, a quarter and a dollar. Students count by twos, fives and tens to 100. They also count to 20 in Spanish. Everyone is counting well into the hundreds and learning place value.

Most of the class can identify all 50 states on a blank map and many can name the capitals as well.

We look forward to story writing, writing a three page booklet and keeping a journal.

Class Schedule | Curricular Activities

The day begins with the Pledge of Allegiance. Students recite the days of the week as well as the months of the year and discuss the weather. They count by tens and ones to 100 and have started simple addition. The alphabet is reviewed and most students can identify all letters and in both upper and lower case. The introduction of blends along with letter sounds is helping with early reading skills. Most of the class can read one vowel words. First Reader Books have been introduced and handwriting is improving daily.
The class is learning the names of the states and can identify many of them on the map. Students have been introduced to both pennies and dimes and can tell time on the hour. The children study simple math concepts including greater than, less than, patterning and problem solving.

Major emphasis is placed on literacy. Weekly letter stories are colored, cut, and sequenced and puppet stories full of alliteration are read. The main idea is discussed and the children answer questions pertaining to the story.

The class is looking forward to the introduction of subtraction, learning more about money, measurement and reading independently.

Class Schedule | Curricular Activities

During morning circle time children recite the Pledge of Allegiance and review all letters and sounds with emphasis on the letter and number of the week. Students discuss the calendar making sure to recite the days of the week and the months of the year. They discuss the weather and monthly holidays.

In small groups children work one on one on cutting, patterning, and writing letters and numbers. The children do a great job painting and pasting and most of them can write their own name. They complete letter theme books and puppets weekly. The students also act out nursery rhymes and recite stories. They sing many songs and do finger plays.

Communication is key. Everyone is learning how to play in small groups. They look forward to completing the alphabet, counting to 50, and recognizing classmates’ first and last names.

Class Schedule | Curricular Activities

Circle time is the most exciting time of the day. It begins promptly at 9 am. The children sing songs, recite the days of the week, review the calendar and discuss the letter and number of the week as well as changes in season and upcoming holidays.

In small groups students cut independently and are assisted with the proper formation of letters and numbers. Letter and sound relationships are reviewed daily. Most students are writing their names and continue to work on the correct way to hold a marker. Weekly letter theme art projects are cut, painted and pasted.

Nursery rhymes are recited, stories are acted out, and books are read and discussed. Counting and patterning are practiced daily. Students complete many puzzles and are learning to play in small groups.

Children look forward to completing the alphabet, recognizing their classmates first and last names and counting to 50 and beyond.

What Parents Like You Have To Say

"The teachers REALLY care! I can't say that enough. It is everything. I HIGHLY recommend this place. They are flexible and the kids come out so advanced. I will miss them dearly when my son leaves there after kindergarten, but as soon as my daughter is old enough, she will be there!"

Adrianne M.

"This school is AMAZING. They have gone above and beyond to exceed my expectations. We miss the staff tremendously. I find comfort in knowing I have found a place for my 1 year old to experience and enjoy just as much as his big sister does. "

Christa S.

"We have had a child at Academy of Excellence for almost six years and plan on doing so for another three more at least. I’ve always said that this isn’t just a school- it’s a family. It’s more than just a school because not only is the learning top notch, but the kids acquire important life lessons and how to value all those around them."
